Yesterday, at the Dan Ayiam Stadium in Owerri Imostate, Heartland FC defeated TP Mazembe with a narrow 2 – 1 win in the first leg of this year’s CAF Champions League final.
The “Naze Millionaires” had to come from a goal down, after Mazembe striker, Tresor Mputu had stunned the home crowd with a 23rd minute opener.
However, Heartland responded instantly with an equalizer barely a minute later through King Osanga, before Uche Agba sealed the slim victory for Heartland with an 80th minute strike.
The Nigerians have it all to do in the second leg coming up in Lubumbashi, Congo on Saturday, if they are to make history by clinching the continent’s premier club competition trophy for the first time.
TP Mazembe last won the the CAF Champion’s League title in 1968.
